Even as a child I loved my Afro, but for my family and me, hair care was always a chore.
My parents raised four little girls.
This also meant four hair washing days for Afro hair.
A hair structure without a voice, without suitable products, without suitable combs, without knowledge.
The drugstore products didn't help – they were designed for straight hair. They dried out our hair and made combing painful. Hair kept breaking, and tears flowed constantly.
Out of frustration, I finally shaved off my Afro completely.
Years later, when my little sister was born, I wanted to make sure
that she never has to have these experiences.
